Things Judges Look For1. Lots of accurate data that has been analyzed and correctly interpreted
2. Unique projects that demonstrate lots of student thought 3. A complex project that has been made simple enough to understand 4. A nice, sharp, clean-looking project 5. Projects that are useable 6. Labeled pictures of the project as it progresses 7. Students that have recommendations for further investigation or modifications to their projects |

How To ...
Pick your Topic
It should come from something that interests you.
It should not be too broad that it cannot be answered through the investigation.
Write your Hypothesis
It should be written as an if ...(I do this)..., then... (this will happen)... research statement.
It should not include personal pronouns.
It should be something you can test. You need to measure what you do and what will happen.
Set up your Log Book - Leave the first two pages blank
It contains all pertinent information regarding the project
It should have enough detail so that another person would be able to duplicate the experiment
Log Book Entries
Each entry must be dated (place the date in the margin)
Each entry must be in ink - NO erasures or white-out
Cross-outs should be a single line through the information
Gather Research
It should educate you in the area of you chosen topic
Information gathered in any research must be added to the logbook
Be sure to enter the pages of interest and the bibliography information
Internet Research
Acceptable Sites
Government websites
University websites originating from a particular department
Industry or other related websites that are scientifically based
Bibliographic Information
The complete website, author, and date of release
If known, the date retrieved from the web
If any portion is sited in the research paper, the page or selection must be printed
Write the Experimental Plan
The Question or Problem being addressed
The Hypothesis
A Detailed Description of the Experimental Procedure and how the data will be analyzed
Set up the Experiment
It must be controlled and in some way measured
It must be verified or repeated - Choose One
Repeat the experiment several times
Use large populations in one experiment
Set up several simultaneous experimental and control groups
